Join the Ohio University Choirs this Mom’s weekend at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium this Saturday, May 6 at 2pm.
The Singing Men of Ohio, Women’s Chorale, and University Singers will be showcasing their best pieces of the academic year and merchandise will be available for purchase in the lobby.
There will be performances from a cappella groups Section 8 and Title IX featuring songs to be debuted at the upcoming A Cappella Invitational to be hosted by the Singing Men of Ohio. The invitational will be held in Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, May 19
This year, in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the College of Fine Arts, the choirs will be doing a repeat performance of Martin Luther King’s famous speech “I Have a Dream”. The piece was arranged by the School of Music’s Dr. Peter Jarjisian for a spoken choir and it will be led by Political Science Graduate Student Paul Hyppolite.
Immediately following the speech, Section 8, Title IX and University Singers will sing “My Soul’s Been Anchored” a piece performed earlier in the year with visiting artists The Fisk Jubilee Singers.
The concert will be Dr. Jarjisian’s final performance as Director of Choirs at Ohio University. He will be retiring this year after 20 years of teaching in the College of Fine Arts.
Come celebrate music and Mothers with the Ohio University Choirs. The event is free to all who wish to attend.
